Introduction to MMCD Course Details
The Introduction to MMCD course is a full day seminar (8:30am 5:00p,), broken into four two hour sessions. Attendees are provided a copy of the MMCD Volume II for use during the course and a student binder to take away containing additional useful information as well as copies of the presentation for notes.
Session 1: The MMCD and MMCDA
List the sponsors of the MMCD and their significance
Describe the benefits of using the MMCD
Describe the documents in the MMCD, the use of each and the reason for its format
List the six major philosophies underlying the Front End Documents of MMCD
Describe at least four major consequences of these philosophies
Explain how the MMCD will be kept current and how members can benefit
Session 2: Some Key Concepts
Explain the role and limitations of the Contract Administrator
Explain the requirement for Contractor competence and its implications
Differentiate between a Change, an Extra Work and a Quantity Variation
Understand how Changes, Extra Work and Quantity Variations are costed
Describe the processes and contractual positions regarding concealed and unknown conditions and hazardous wastes
Describe the monthly payment process and the allowed offsets
Session 3: Dispute Resolution and Document Modifications
Describe the underlying principles of the Dispute Resolution process
List the five stages of the process
Determine when a Referee is needed and state how to locate one
Define the Referee’s function and explain how a Referee is paid
Explain the hazards of careless modification of the documents
Locate the suggested process for creating MMCD contracts and modifying the standard documents
Session 4: Differences and Updates
List at least five key differences between the MMCD and past industry practice
Locate a list identifying major differences between the 2000 edition ("Gold Book") and the 2009 Platinum Edition
Explain how to find the latest information on updates, technical notes and user comments
Explain how to provide suggestions for changes to the document
