The MMCD is pleased to announce that the new MMCD Design Guideline document is now available! This is the first update to the manual since 2005 and, for the first time, it is provided in a convenient and easily accessible electronic format.
The Design Guideline Manual provides a standardized set of guidelines that can be adopted by municipalities and other agencies involved with design and construction of municipal infrastructure.
The Design Guideline Manual includes:
- Alternative criteria relating to field conditions, climate, development standards and development density.
- Design criteria variations that may be adopted by various agencies in the form of Supplementary Design Guidelines, which supersede the guidelines contained in this manual.
- The contents of the manual are intended to complement MMCD Specifications and Standard Detailed Drawings.
Green Design Guidelines
The Green Design Guidelines (2005 edition) have been incorporated, updated and expanded in Chapter 8 of the 2014 MMCD Design Guideline Manual.
Some practices and design approaches have the potential to support sustainable development at the local government level. The decision to employ these supplementary practices remains with the design professional. However, the Design Guidelines Sustainability Considerations explore potential decision factors that may influence the choice of enhanced sustainability measures in the contract documents.
The 2014 Design Guideline Manual makes extensive use of links to source documents and document libraries where reference material may be examined, or purchased from source. This is a potential timesaver for the designer when researching sustainability practices.
